SPA 255 - Recuperating Female Voices from Fascist Spain3 Credits Offered periodically or as needed Between 1931 and 1936 both elite and working-class women in Spain made unprecedented strides in the advocacy of their rights and the equality of the sexes. Through the lens of historical memory, this course explores how Spanish women navigated repressive control over their minds and bodies, racial hygiene, social and ethnic injustice, war, prison, and exile resulting from the Spanish Civil War and the brutal fascist regime of Franco’s Spain beginning in 1939.
