COM 323 - Honors-Film Censorship and American CultureThree Credits Not Offered 2009-2010
Examines the continuing battle over film content, a battle as old as the medium itself. Against recurrent threats of federal censorship, filmmakers have struggled to present messages that have often been at odds with a vast array of powerful groups, from the Catholic Legion of Decency to National Organization for Women. Discussions will cover the erosion of the Production Code and the institution of a Rating system. Prerequisite(s): COM 220 . Limited to honors scholars.
