The College offers a minor in Sport Commerce and Culture.
Description of the Program
Sport Commerce and Culture is an interdisciplinary minor that gives students a well-rounded view of the rapidly growing sports industry. Sports has a prominent and growing place in U.S. popular culture, a trend reflected here at Stonehill where 83% of students play a sport at the varsity, intramural or club level. It has become the subject of academic study across a wide range of disciplines, both as a distinct area of study and one in which it serves as a vehicle to illustrate and explore theories. Students choosing this minor will have the opportunity to study the industry through many disciplines, including economics, psychology, marketing, management, data science, and religious studies. Students can use the minor to explore an interest in sports in an academic way, or as a complement to a disciplinary major that can increase their ability to enter and succeed in the sports industry.
Student Learning Goals
Minors in Sport Commerce and Culture will:
1. gain an analytical understanding of sport from the perspective of multiple disciplines;
2. develop an advanced appreciation of the place of sports in popular culture and commerce;
3. have the opportunity to hone analytical skills on sport-related topics
