EGR 321 - Statistical Methods in Physics and Engineering

3 Credits
Offered every other Spring
An introduction to the uses of statistical methods in many-body physical systems. Includes a survey of basic probability and statistics and the use of statistics in data analysis. Other major topics include temperature, heat, work, entropy, engines, and refrigerators; Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution, microcanonical, canonical, and grand canonical distributions; quantum statistics of bosons and fermions; black body radiation; electronic and thermal properties of semiconductors; and other materials.

Prerequisite(s)/Restriction(s): PHY 121 - Physics I PHY 122 - Physics II , and (PHY 221 - Physics III  or EGE 301 - Microelectronics ).
