SPA 356 - The Sword and the Cross3 Credits Offered Spring This course explores how medieval Christians attempted to reconquer territory lost after the eight-century Muslim invasion, and how this process of expanding Christianity continued into the “New World”. Students will explore how the conquest of America was connected to policies which had previously existed throughout Spain and will study the complex problems that emerge when two cultures collide. Special attention will be paid to the representation and the perspective of the “other”.
