SOC 205 - Sociology of Marriage and Family3 Credits Offered Fall This course examines families today and in the past with a view to understanding the changes that have taken place in gender roles, sexuality and reproduction, courtship, co-habitation and marriage, parenthood and child-rearing. We will look at the institution of the family within a political, social and economic framework. We will also examine some of the challenges facing families today; poverty, teen pregnancy, adoption and foster care, surrogacy, child abuse and neglect and domestic violence.
