A major in Political Science and International Studies requires the completion of at least 39 credits, which include six required courses plus at least 21 additional credits taken as part of a concentration in Government and Politics, International Relations, or Public Administration and Public Policy.

Complete Six Required Courses


Choose One of the Following Concentrations


Political Science & International Studies majors must choose a Concentration in Government and Politics, International Relations, or Public Administration and Public Policy.

Government and Politics Concentration


Complete Six Elective (PSC) Credits


International Relations Concentration


Complete Four Elective Courses at the 200-Level or Above


Foreign Language/Study Abroad Requirement


  • Mastery of a Foreign Language at the advanced 300-level is required.
  • Students must participate in a study abroad program.

Public Administration and Public Policy Concentration


Political Science & International Studies Honors Program


Students who complete the Honors Program will be awarded a degree “with honors in Political Science and International Studies.” Students with a GPA of at least 3.50 in the major and who have completed POL 310 - Research Methods in Political Science  or plan to do so in the fall of their senior year may apply to this program in the spring semester of their junior year. Once admitted departmental honors scholars must successfully complete honors level work in POL 401 - Political Science Honors Thesis I  and  POL 402 - Political Science Honors Thesis II  as well as submit and orally defend an honors quality senior thesis, which is evaluated by members of the department.
