Goals

• Students will be able to communicate effectively in a foreign language in both oral and written forms.
• Students will appreciate and understand a foreign culture, its values and institutions, including relevant aspects of history, art and geography.
• Students will learn the linguistic, cultural, aesthetic, and critical contributions of foreign literatures.

Complete Four Required Courses

• FRN 333 - French Culture and Civilization I
• FRN 334 - French Culture and Civilization II
• FRN 335 - Survey of French Literature I
• FRN 336 - Survey of French Literature II

• FRN 340 - French Cinema (May be substituted for FRN 333 , FRN 334 , FRN 335 , or FRN 336  )

Complete Six Elective Courses (300-Level or Above)

• FRN 331 - Advanced French I
• FRN 332 - Advanced French II
• FRN 337 - French Conversation and Composition
• FRN 340 - French Cinema
• FRN 342 - Gender Construction in Francophone Culture
• FRN 348 - Nineteenth Century French Literature
• FRN 475 - Internship in French Studies
• A Maximum of Three Courses taken abroad could also be approved for the major.

Study Abroad Requirement

All majors in French, Spanish, and Foreign Languages are required to spend a semester abroad in an approved program of study or in one of the international internships sponsored by Stonehill College.

Students may transfer three courses taken abroad to the major. Additional foreign language courses will count as general electives.
