Physics, B.A., Astronomy Concentration

The B.A. in physics is designed for students who wish either to pursue an interdisciplinary field or to teach at a primary or secondary level. The B.A. is also offered as part of the Stonehill’s Engineering 3+2 Program with the University of Notre Dame.

A Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Physics with an Astronomy Concentration includes 10 courses offered by the Physics department. All students in the major must take the following courses in Math and Science:

MTH 225 - Statistics for Science (not required of double majors in Physics and Chemistry)
MTH 261 - Multivariable Calculus
PHY 221 - Physics III

Spring Semester

Plus one or two of the following courses when offered

PHY 222 - Classical Mechanics
PHY 322 - Astrophysics and Cosmology
PHY 324 - Electromagnetism
PHY 403 - Topics in Physics (when topic is Math Methods in Physics) OR
MTH 364 - Differential Equations and Dynamics

Junior and Senior Years

PHY 222 - Classical Mechanics (if not completed earlier)
PHY 305 - Physics Problem Solving III
PHY 322 - Astrophysics and Cosmology (if not completed earlier)
PHY 324 - Electromagnetism (if not completed earlier)
PHY 401 - Great Experiments in Modern Physics I
PHY 403 - Topics in Physics (if topic is Math Methods in Physics) OR
MTH 364 - Differential Equations and Dynamics
(if not completed earlier)
PHY 404 - Topics in Astronomy (required)
PHY 405 - Physics Problem Solving IV (Completion of PHY 105, 205, 305 & 405 fulfills the Physics Capstone)
