HIS 111 - New York, New York (First-Year Seminar*)

Fall and Spring Semesters

This course examines the rise of New York City from the 18th century to its emergence as the nation’s most modern metropolis. It follows the city through a number of growing pains including the notorious Civil War draft riots, the rise of the slums, the emergence of an urban youth culture and the development of the nation’s first amusement park on Coney Island.

 

Prerequisite(s): *Four-Credit version open to First-Year Students only.
Considered a United States History.
Three-Credit version fulfills the Cornerstone History Requirement.
*Four-Credit version fulfills the First-Year Seminar and Cornerstone History Requirements.
